About this place
A good katsu-don depends not only on the egg around the cutlet, but also on the dashi that seeps into the rice beneath it. Okuda’s regular katsu-don pairs a 90g domestic pork loin cutlet with its house sweet-and-savoury dashi and soft, creamy egg, served over Koshihikari rice from Omi. The dashi is simmered for 9–10 hours with chicken bones from domestic local-breed chickens and several kinds of vegetables. Diners have said the seasoning and doneness suited their tastes, making the bowl a good place to start.
For a more substantial serving, the upper-size option comes with 2 pork loin cutlets weighing 90g. If you’re choosing between the two, consider whether you want the cutlet to take centre stage alongside a generous portion of rice.
Diners have also praised the set-meal pork loin cutlet for its thick meat and light coating. One person enjoyed the pairing of the cutlet with demi-glace sauce; another commented on the thickness of the meat and generous amount of cheese in the cheese cutlet. These sauces and toppings offer alternatives if you’d like something different from the classic katsu-don.
Some diners have found the ticket-machine ordering system unfamiliar, so it may help to decide what you’d like before you arrive. The restaurant is suitable for solo dining and serves both lunch and dinner.
